Bell-shaped distributions

A bell-shaped distribution is here being taken as being an unimodal distribution for which the absolute values of the forward differences on each side of the mode are both unimodal.

Bell-shaped likelinesses

The flattening of the peak to the right of the mode is due to the offset of the mode from the centre of the domain. This results in the two unimodal distributions which make up the forward differences being of different lengths, with the one on the right having longer, flatter tails -and it is this flattening of the tail which gives the flattened peak.
