sawtooth distributions

Definition of a sawtooth distribution

A sawtooth distribution is a multimodal distribution for which:

  1. The essential domains do not intersect
  2. The modes are either all at the extreme RH end or all at the extreme LH end of their essential domains

Example

The following specification gives sawtooth distributions of degree 60 with 5 'teeth' (pieces):-

For Piece 1 the essential domain goes from 1 to 10. The Mode is at 10.

For Piece 2 the essential domain goes from 11 to 20. The Mode is at 20.

For Piece 3 the essential domain goes from 21 to 35. The Mode is at 35.

For Piece 4 the essential domain goes from 36 to 45. The Mode is at 45.

For Piece 5 the essential domain goes from 46 to 60. The Mode is at 60.

Weights are taken from S(5).
